Stop Press

We recently said “Goodbye” to Elaine Stead who has been with the choir for a number of years. Elaine is moving to Northumberland and we wish her every happiness.

After our ground-breaking performances in the World War 1 Centenary at Fewston on November 9th, we are now focussing on the forthcoming carol services at Fewston and Leathley on the last weekend before Christmas.

Full details can be seen on our ‘Future Engagements’ page.

Rehearsals started on Monday November 19th.

About

The Washburn Valley Choir rehearses regularly on Monday evenings at St Oswald’s Church, Leathley. We sing on special occasions at the churches within the Washburn Valley.

After 4 years in its current format the choir continues to thrive and serve the churches of the valley; we currently number 6 Sopranos, 5 Altos, 4 Tenors and 5 Basses. We are supported by some very accomplished accompanists…!

We sing mainly at church services, but occasionally there is scope for performing at other celebrations, as evidenced by our Flower Festival appearance 2 years ago, when members of the Wharfe Valley Male Voice Choir and Madrigalis joined us to make a very happy sound.

We attend key church events, including Easter, Harvest and Christmas.

As choral director I encourage the choir to sing to their maximum capabilities in a friendly and positive atmosphere. We have tackled a wide range of repertoire and it is a continuous learning process.

Friday 21st September saw us singing at Blubberhouses church, wonderfully accompanied by Jamie Hudson on the tiny organ at St. Andrews! The congregation and choir were treated to a magnificent supper and drinks at The Hopper Lane afterwards.

Good Friday

The WVC sang two pieces at the Norwood chapel Good Friday service: “Ubi Caritas” by Durufle and “Were You There?” by Bob Chilcott.

Palm Sunday

The WVC sang two pieces at the Leathley Palm Sunday service – The Feast Of Palms by Alan Bullard, and Hosanna by Victoria.
